Experience matters! Although my home inspection career began in 2013, I had the benefit of being part of our family home inspection business which started back in 1988. Learning a tried and true home inspection process, decades in the making, was an incredibly invaluable way for me to begin my home inspection career. Despite this, I still felt we could do more to provide our clients with a better home inspection.
Home inspections are visual inspections and under most Standards of Practice, do not require the use of any tools. This means that ultimately, the quality of a home inspection is based solely on what an inspector can observe. So, it only made sense that I had to find a way to "see" more. This began with the use of simple tools such as a moisture meter to determine if a water stain was evidence of an active leak which would then help us trace the source of the leak. Next, we began to use infrared thermometers to help inspect HVAC systems and water heaters. This eventually evolved into infrared thermography which takes HVAC inspections to another level, helps find water leaks which can't be seen with the naked eye, can be used to inspect the plumbing system, water heater tanks, boilers, electrical components, insulation and areas of energy loss, appliances and more. Then the standard digital camera was replaced with a 50X optical zoom HD camera which now has been replaced with a high-quality DJI drone with 50mp camera that allows us to still perform an up-close examination of the roof and chimney when the roof is not safe to walk.
What's next? Artificial Intelligence! We have partnered with a lab specializing in AI which analyzes 70-80% more mold spores and particulates of each indoor air sample taken than conventional labs to give you the most accurate reading possible! I take extreme pride in my job, and you can be confident that I am always looking for the newest technology to incorporate into our business to better serve you!
